What happens to historical file versions in a sharepoint migration if no mapping file is used?

Migrating an on-prem Sharepoint to O365 Sharepoint/teamsite using SPMT. There are no special permissions on this site, everyone can see everything, so I was thinking of not using a mapping file.

Assuming there's no mapping file used, what happens to the historical versioning of the files?

Will the new Sharepoint site still show the names of the people who edited the versions? Or do the versions still remain, but without names?

Hello @gocrusade-7755 ,

Welcome to the Q&A Forum.

If you disable Automatic user mapping(no mapping file), all versions of a file will be migrated to the SharePoint Online.

The new Sharepoint site will still display the name of the people who edited the versions
