Teams Video Call Pop Out

Prior to the recent update a few months ago, there was a setting to have your video call pop out from the main teams application. It was under general settings called "turn on new meetings and calling experiences which took you to more setting options of which one was to pop out the call. This is now missing from the options, is there another location in Teams settings to make this request for call pop outs?

I checked in several clients (Teams version 1.4.00.10372 (64-bit), Teams Version 1.4.00.8872 (64-bit)). No “Turn on new meeting experience” option shows in Settings.

However, this feature is applied to Teams client. When we start a Teams meeting, it will pop out a new window.

We will work on this scenario. Any update I will share with you here.

This scenario is by design. This option is for user to get familiar with this feature in the beginning. Now, it is turned on by default.

Official document gives explanation as below:

What if I don’t turn the new experience on?

We’d love for you to try it out. We’re making it available in this way partly because in the near future, we’ll turn the experience on by default. Eventually, the setting to turn it on and off will go away. At that time, the experience of meetings in separate windows, with the meeting controls at the top, will become the norm. So we want you to have ample time to get familiar with it.

So I was able to have all my meeting videos calls pop out from teams with the setting prior to the new release. All of my other peers and direct reports who did not set this up prior to the new release are unable to have this feature. All video calls are with in the teams desk top application and if they need to see messages, the minimize the full screen and the video appears in the top left section above their chat panels. There is no automatic pop out of video from teams. So the above is stating that the pop out feature will no longer be an option in the future? If that is the case, that will significantly change the positives about teams. In this virtual world, we all use teams differently depending on the needs of our business, and to take this feature away it will drastically increase frustration with usability of teams to be as effective in our roles as possible.

Do you use VDI clients?
If the clients are not improperly detected as VDI clients, new meeting experience feature would be disabled.

Hi Sharon! We do use VDI but I am not sure what you mean by improperly detected as VDI clients. I can field this to our IT team but it sounds like with VDI we will not get this feature? We had VDI when I was able to set up the video pop out feature and we a have not changed providers. Since the new version launched, we have not had the feature. Would this be due to VDI and the new release not meshing?

Yes, VDI doesn't support for multi-window experience for now.

Would this be due to VDI and the new release not meshing?
We have no such news.

Thank you Sharon! I know we are currently looking for another VDI provider as we have too many issues with the current provider to constitute keeping it, but sounds like any provider of a VDI environment will not work with the multi-window experience now that the new release is in place. Thank you for all your assistance and research, I can now go back to the team and let them know not an option. You're the best! Take care!

I have had the ability to view the video window as a pop out until today. I am on version 1.4.00.22976 which was updated on 10/6/2021. This version shows the video window inset like it used to. I checked Settings -> General and I do not have an option for "Turn on new meeting experience" either.

Sharon, we are all on the same version of Teams and we have one user that can pop his video screen out and the rest of us cannot. We would all like to pop our videos screens out. Are you saying in your comments that this was put on as a demo and has not been removed? Can we please have it back? This appears to be an important want from our perspective and any updates as to when we would be able to do this would be greatly appreciated.

I have version 1.4.00.31569, installed 12/7/21, and I have the same issue as Kerry, above. @Sharon Zhao-MSFT please help in directing us in a way to pop-out calls, video calls, and meetings.

experiencing the same issue here, very inconvenient. My company never should have switched to teams from slack.
