Hi @vladacink-0803,

Search in OWA not working.

By this, do you mean no result is returned or the search results are not complete?
Is it affecting all users in your environment?
How about having a try in Outlook and switching between Exchange cached mode and Online mode to see if there would be any difference?

Besides, please make sure the following services are running properly:

  • Microsoft Exchange Search

  • Microsoft Exchange Search Host Controller

It's also suggested to try moving an affected mailbox to another mailbox database and see how it goes.

Update:

Unlike previous versions of Exchange, the search index in Exchange 2019 is now held within the mailbox. For your situation, it's likely that there are some indexing issues with the affected mailboxes.

I tried to search a lot but did't find any official document stating the possible causes for this kind of indexing issues so personally I cannot say that for sure if it's related to the patch you applied recently. Howerver, based on my previous experience and research, in most similar occasions, moving the mailboxes to another database can help solve the search issues. So in case you encounter a similar search issue in your Exchange 2019 environment in the future, you can try it again by moving a mailbox to a new database. Here's another thread related to search issue in Exchange 2019 which was also finally resolved by moving the mailbox:

And this is a blog which hopefully can be helpful:

Hello YukiSun,

in this enviroment users use only OWA as primary mail access. By default "Microsoft Exchange Search Host Controller" was not running, I tried start and set automaticly. On another Exchange 19 I installed about 2months ago with CU8 "Microsoft Exchange Search Host Controller" is also not running with clean install and search is working normally.

Yes I had same Idea, to move mailbox to new DB - it working ! It was same for all users ...after moving, search work...

So now... what is bad ? And what I should be carefull of ?

Nice day
vc.

Hi @vladacink-0803,

Great to know that it's working now after mailboxes were moved to a new database.

Due to the 1000 characters limit of a comment, I'll update my post earlier to include some more informaiton.
