Hyper V 2019 : unbalanced memory

Hello everybody,

customer installed 18 servers with 4 processors: processors 1 and 2 have 160GB of memory installed, processors 3 and 4 have 128GB installed

This type of configuration causes an imbalance of the memory associated with the pair of processors; in fact, during the post server, the message Unbalanced memory appears.

What impact will this type of configuration have if you have an MS HyperV 2019 datacenter clustered environment consisting of 18 servers on which about 400 Virtual Machines?
Thanks for the feedback. Greetings Gianluca

Hi,

Thank you for your posting!

Firstly, in the scope of Hyper-V environment, we do not require balanced memory, as long as you can meet the hardware requirements for Hyper-V configuration, your processor configuration will be fine. Here are the articles for further understanding Hyper-V installation requirements:

https://docs.microsoft.com/zh-cn/windows-server/virtualization/hyper-v/get-started/install-the-hyper-v-role-on-windows-server

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/failover-clustering/clustering-requirements

Secondly, if you still are worried about your performance, I suggest you to pay more attention to memory allocation, using some tools or features. For instance, you could take a look at Hyper-V NUMA feature which is designed to better allocate memory for multiprocessor users. You can set your customized NUMA in Hyper-V Manager>> VM settings >> NUMA:

And here are some articles you can refer to:
