Question for vSwitch bandwidth?

Hello Everyone,

Just a question I would like to confirm. If you have a vSwitch bound to a 10Gigabit NIC, doest it mean VMs connected to it will have 10G of bandwidth connectivity? For example, VM1 and VM2 were connected to the same vSwitch, internal communication between VM1 and VM2 will have 10Gb link?

Thanks in advanced!

Hi,

Ideally, if we use the 10GB NIC to create the external virtual switch, as far as I know, all network traffic on the NIC including host traffic and VM traffic, can have 10 GB bandwidth.

For the bandwidth between the VMs, in most cases, will lower than 10GB. You may use some third-party traffic monitor tools to measure the bandwidth between the VMs.

Thanks for your time!
Best Regards,
Anne
