Microsoft Remote Desktop 10.6.4 on macOS causes new 0x907 error

Microsoft Remote Desktop on macOS from the App Store is a critical application for me. The newest update from ~2021/04/22, version 10.6.4, causes a new error to appear when connecting to a Windows 10 machine. The RDP app has been working as expected for months, until this version. Hilariously enough, the change notes for 10.6.4 indicate that they fixed an issue that was causing the client to return a 0x907 error code, but it is this version that caused me to experience this issue for the first time, preventing me from doing work. It is clear that Microsoft doesn't want to accept bug reports, so posting this here in cases someone at Microsoft actually sees this.

Precisely the same experience. 10.6.4 is preventing home-based workers from being able to perform their job. If you have 10.6.3 and haven't updated yet, make a backup of it now, to avoid this. I restored and am able to work. I've opened a case with Microsoft support through my M365 subscription.

Found a workaround. The new (broken) client requires the certificate on the machine you are connecting to, to have Server Authentication in the enhanced key usage. (1.3.6.1.5.5.7.3.1). Previous rd clients only required the Remote Desktop Authentication (1.3.6.1.4.1.311.54.1.2).

This worked for me as well. Thank you for posting this.

I have the same problem, but this unfortunately does not work for me, and neither does 10.6.6 (released today).

Still the same error.

After hearing that @5580-7618. I received an advice from MS (per my open support case with them) that 10.6.5 was released to the Mac App Store. I just updated to 10.6.5 and I am able to remote desktop again. I'm on macOS 11.3 and I'm connecting over a VPN tunnel to my work.

This is now resolved for me as well.

Same error here on a fleet of 11 MacOS devices — latest application update—which, hilariously, includes among its release notes a “fix for error 0x907”—causes a certificate error on remote servers (i.e., error 0x907).

Regarding my case, MS is looking into it but no defined resolution or ETA as of yet. @FrederikSchaller-2484 thanks for the workaround while we wait for it go publish through the App Store.

Hi @LeilaKong-MSFT,

What ticket? This Question here is only thing I opened. I have no idea how to actually report a bug to Microsoft. If they wanted user submitted bug reports, it'd be on the first page Google search results for "Microsoft report bug" (or even bing).

Reporting that a number of users have started seeing this error - first reported to my team yesterday,

In the meantime, could a previous version be made available, somewhere between versions 10.6.1 ands 10.6.3?

The only solution for now seems to be downloading an older version (such as 10.6.3). This is possible via MacUpdate: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/8431/microsoft-remote-desktop.

A couple of days ago, v10.6.5 appeared in the Mac App Store - installed and from what I can see, that version of the official release appears to be working.
