Using Percept Studio without the Dev Kit

I am not interested in the DevKit, but I am interested in using Percept Studio - if possible - for end-to-end model development. I am using Oak1 cameras from Luxonis which also have the MyriadX chip and therefore use OpenVino like the Percept Dev Kit. My end-user devices are not wifi connected and therefore I need to deploy custom models that are not subscription based. Lots of ways to do this using various services, but I would be interested in Percept Studio if it can handle the end-to-end model training and deployment of a disconnected openVino model. Is this possible?

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your interest in Azure Percept Studio.

The Azure Percept DK functions as a reference implementation for how to build a complete end to end Azure Percept solution.

Your question/request is interesting and we’d like to understand your design a bit more.

The MyriadX requires a host processor for OpenVino to execute on and delegate the hardware offload and compute for the MyriadX. Can you confirm you will have a host processor, and what the host processor is? What OS will you be running on this processor?

We understand you will not have WiFi on your device. Can you share the methods in which you plan to update your OS, firmware and AI models?

Azure Percept studio offers
• Device management and update
• ML Model deployment, image capture, training and re-training
• Samples, Documentation, Prebuilt models and guides

Which of these are of interest to your scenario?

Thanks!

Hi Mimcco,

The host device is a linux sbc incorporated into a piece of portable consumer equipment.

Think of it like a piece of camping equipment. When the user goes camping, they cannot be required to find out if there is some random wifi network to connect to before it works. And they are not open to being charged a subscription fee based on the number of camera inferences. They buy this equipment like most consumer devices, and they expect it to just work.

We have already tried to use Cognitive Services models on this equipment only to find out the hard way that Cognitive Services models require a wifi connection and charge on a per inference basis. The need for a wifi connection is purely so Microsoft can track usage and bill for it.

The question is, does Percept Studio follow this same business model?

Thanks,
