Microsoft has just published a new testing version of Teams for linux
http://packages.microsoft.com/repos/ms-teams/pool/main/t/teams-insiders/
Version: 1.3.00.16851

I have updated the teams, but I cann't test at the moment. My children's school donw allow to the students create meetings. I will wait until tomorrow for the begin of the class.

Missing features in Linux that I know at the moment:
- No hands UP
- 3x3
- background effects
- Not mouse pointer when sharing desktop
- Not possible to share a window. You need to share the full desktop.

I have tested some features and I can confirm they haven't been implemented at the moment:

  • No hands UP

  • No 3x3

  • No background effects.

I can't test mouse pointer and sharing a window application, because I haven't the permissions to do it.

Hi @RodriguezGarciaJoseLuis-7311 thank you for trying testing version of Teams for Linux. It is true that this version still has no hands up and no 3x3, but with this version you should get

  • fixes for high cpu usage after screensharing

  • red border around shared desktop

  • cursor while screen sharing is visible to recipients

  • code necessary for enabling background blur. We are still doing testing around this feature and we will start gradually enable it. There will be no client update needed

When is snap launch for teams ?

There is no roadmap for Teams linux.
Microsoft is releasing updates for teams windows version left and right..day and night. And because linux users are very less, Teams for Linux doesn't even have a roadmap for god sake.

Can you show me the roadmap for Teams linux ? No bcoz there isn't any.
Linux users literally have to shout to get the features which Windows users are enjoying without even asking.

Windows users might get 7*7 video grid soon, and here we are on 2*2 grid on linux with no roadmap on when 3*3 will come.

Raise hand to speak...again the same story, no one knows when it will come

And basically for all the features linux version will always be 1 yr behind Windows version, may b even more.
We'll get 2020 features in 2021 ( if we r lucky ), but by that time Windows will be way too ahead for linux version.

Linux will always do the catching up with windows version with 1 or 2 yrs of delay

Hi @MarianJavorkaMSFT
Thanks for the detailed update.

It is good to know that background blur will be available.

Hi RodriguezGarciaJoseLuis-7311,

Teams for Linux updates these features gradually.

If certain feature is in plan, you can check the progress in Microsoft 365 Roadmap.

At present, these features are not listed in the roadmap. It will take up more time to improve Teams for Linux. Thanks for you understanding and patience.

The 3x3 grid would be nice, but we really need the raised-hand feature on Linux. It's very important to us, and probably to most users who convene large meetings on Teams.

Currently, we're evaluating alternative apps, just because of the absence of this one feature on one OS.

The important question is why those basic features are not in roadmap for Teams Linux. ?
Because Teams for Linux can still function without those features so let it be.
Fot end users those are very important features, so they should be on roadMap for sure.

It's really a shame of MS to handle the Linux client like this. MS is able to deliver new versions incl. all features in parallel operating systems, see Visual Studio Code.
But for Teams you follow the miserable marketing "Make Win great again" - in Germany we call it "Kindergarten" behavior.
Very interesting that Mac is handled different ... too much managers (decision makers of companies) that use Apple stuff, so you would loose a lot of contracts and market share.

You face Slack and other familiar products with shouting "we are better" ... you even are not able to provide all typical OS like them - the basics ladies and gentleman, the basics!

It's really easy to discover your attitude - SHAME !!! MS still shows "we are evil"! In the current world and the new generations you will fail finally ...

Linux community is very small, they implemented 3*3 video grid after that vote crossed 50K votes.
You really think we'll even cross 2000 mark ? And will it have any effect on Microsoft ? Nope

guess why the Linux user base is so tiny: because it's such a crap.

... still in progress of publishing my long bug list. some of them are causing crashes, some of them are security-critical ...

looks like these folks really need some elementary lessons on GNU/Linux programming.

So this is the so called roadMap for Team Linux ? The way I see it, December 2019 is gone long time ago.

VisualStudio code is also based on Electron, how come they keep it updated just like Windows versions?

Can we expect a honest answer if Teams Linux will ever be at par with Windows or it will be like.....Windows version gets 10 new features in 2020 and Linux gets 3 features out of those 10 in 2021, coz that's how it is .
Even the most important features are not present like Raise hand to speak, 3x3 video grid and giving controls for screen sharing, and if we ask we are just told to see the roadmap, that is so irresponsible reply when the roadmap itself doesnt have anything.
So what should we assume? that roadmap wont have any clear list and teams will be updated as per the convenience and needs of internal team at microsoft ? and we should just keep checking the repository if there are any new insiders build in a hope that there will be a newer version in future ? which will include just 1-2 new features which came 7-8 months after windows got 10 new features.

It is sad to see this careless microsoft with the linux version, he has an incredible opportunity to enter the Linux world, but he prefers to somehow force users to migrate to Windows to have all the resources of Microsoft teams available.

Or migrate away from MS-Teams to FOSS solutions (eg. Jitsi).
Secret code is always a very bad idea to begin with.

I'd like to know how many engineer are working for updating linux version. Months go by, and we keep in same situation.

Teams for linux is like a internal project for them on which few engineers must be working and they provide new features as per their internal requirements.
I mean look at the roadmap of teams linux...apart from launch date of last year December..it has nothing.
Even when they launch a new feature..on Twitter they only mention about Windows and Mac versions.
Linux version is just a gimmick so that they can say "Teams is multi platform"
That's it.
Anyone would be a fool to think that Linux version will be at par with Windows version.. never
We'll get some basic features after a delay of may be 1 or 1.5 yr from Windows version.
So much for "Windows ♥️ Linux" tagline.
