SharePoint 2016 user does not exist or is not unique

Hello everyone, I am facing some issues with SharePoint 2016. when I try to change a people picker field from list quick edit it shows me an error "the user does not exist or is not unique", even though I am able to change the people picker field value from the item edit page but my workflow (spd2010) is throwing another error "The workflow could not update the item, possibly because one or more columns for the item require a different type of information." I am using ADFS to get users' info from different domains, and I am not using the SP user profile service.
How can I solve this problem?

p.s: I found many users with duplicate accounts in the user information list even in the workflow email action I am seeing many users with more than 1 account each 1 in a different domain (ex: i:0e.t|aaa|myh@yy.com or i:0e.t|bbb|myh@yy.com)

Hi, @MYA-6561 ,

For the issue, I would like to know a bit more about your current situation.

  1. As you have tagged the thread with ADFS to AAD migration, do you mean the farm has integrated with with Azure Active Directory?

  2. Does the issue occur for all users in your farm? And have you tried with other people picker field?

For the duplicate accounts, here is a workaround to hide the Windows Authentication provider. You can have a try on the script to see if it works for you.

  1. Yes integrated with Azure AD

  2. No, not for all users some of them only. I have tried with other people's picker field and the same issue appears.
