Remote Desktop Connection - Local Resources (Greyed Out)

Hi,

I've been using Remote Desktop Connection for work, for over 6 months now and was using my local computer's webcam and its mic while on my Remote Desktop. To do this I activated using them through the Local Resources option in the settings for the RDC.

However, as of a week ago my IT had to troubleshoot a connection issue with the RDC and now the Local Resources settings are greyed out so I cannot use my webcam or its mic. The IT group said they did nothing to change this and its not possible to use my local resources in the RDC even though up until that afternoon it was working fine.

Best Regards,

Hi,

First of all , is it a simple RDP connection from the client to the client, or in an environment where the RDS server is deployed, reach to the session host?
Secondly, we can change the RDP settings through the *.rdp files. Here is my demonstrations working with Win10 RDP 10.8. Please try to perform these steps for changing the redirectcomports from 0 to 1 . I hope it’s working for you.

  1. Open RDC app and click Show Options tab.

  2. Under General tab, enter the IP address of your remote server into the Computer field, then Save As the *.rdp file.

  3. Open the file with Notepad.

  4. Be sure this line “redirectcomports:i:value” value is 1.

  5. Use this saved *.rdp file to do Remote Desktop Connection.

Additionally, you can also check "audiomode:i:value" and "camerastoredirect:s:value" parameters are correctly.

Hi, I was able to solve my own problem by luckily finding the old .rdp for the original Remote Desktop I was using that I guess my IT group deleted, this one when I restored it to my desktop still allowed me to change the local resources so I can use my home desktop's Webcam/Mic.

I still am confused why the newer RDP file, IT saved does not allow the Local Resources to be changed and looked into your solution above but the “redirectcomports:i:value” is not an option when I look at the Notepad. Also to clarify per your original question, I believe this is just a RDP for a client to client connection. Aka my home computer connects to my work computer at the office so I can work on it from home.

Hi,

Did you ever edit Local Group Policy as shown on below? These policies setting lets you control the redirection of local resource.

I can't access the Local Group Policy thing you show there, I've googled multiple methods and non of them work.

Hi,

Did you log on as an administrator? And then hit the Start key, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter. This will open the Local Group Policy Editor.

I only have 1 login and it is an admin account, as mentioned I already tried multiple ways to access the Local Group Policy Editor, none work.

This seems to be getting more and more convoluted to solve my problem.
