powering on backup DC after a few days offline - caution ?

hi we had to power off a backup DC for a few days while we moved physical locations. we are ready to power it backup. is there any special process involved here that i need to be aware of? can we simply just turn it back on and it will resume replication with the PDC?

Should not be a problem to just power it back on. The only worry would be if it had tombstoned which it sounds like this wouldn't be a concern (few days).

Hello @JasonGodfrey-5248,

Thank you for posting here.

Based on the description above, if your AD environment is healthy without any error or issue before you power off this backup DC.

For example:

1.Each DC works fine. Check by running Dcdiag /v on each DC.
2.AD replication works properly by running repadmin /showrepl and repadmin /replsum on PDC.
3.Both SYSVOL folder and Netlogon folder are shared by running net share on each DC.
4.Update GPO by running gpupdate /force on each DC successfully.

Then you only power off the backup DC for a few days (less than 180 days), you can simply just turn it back on and it should work fine and should replicate with the PDC.

Hope the information above is helpful
