I'm IT guy, people at my work started coming to me with this 'feature'. MS should take care of this immediately. It's PIA.
is there an update when there will be a new fix? Its not as if I'm going to get everyone in our business to run this work around. Wonder which bright spark wanted to make the change.
I'm our companies IT guy, and my first user just reported this issue this morning. He was simply creating an email and typing the first few letters in the TO field and the list now POPS UP, instead of drops down.
Very frustrating. The user is using MS Office Home & Business 2019
Our users here don't normally complain but this one has caused a lot of complaints! I've had to roll back all Office 2019 users to an earlier version so they can scroll up to the top of the list again.
I have just updated Outlook 2016 to Version 2103 (Build 13901.20366) which has fixed this problem.
Workaround: You can break out the message into its own window, click the button to "restore down" button (between close window and minimize) and then move the window as needed (toward the bottom of your screen). Then, you can use the auto complete list as you will now have enough screen real-estate above your message to display your auto complete list.
That might be OK if you only have a few names in the auto-suggest. I have more than 20 'Davids' for example, and I can't see the top of the list EVEN IF I follow your suggestion. What next please?
Ditto here. On top of the 'invisible ink' feature rolled out last night in Outlook (spent the morning fixing that across 2 offices), the new autocomplete 'feature' is ridiculous. We don't need icons / large text - but we do need to actually be able to see the names
This is insane. WHY would they change a feature to make it worse? Do they seriously not test this? I realize the "style" these days is for massive icons, fonts and spacing (I'm already unhappy with the massive spaces between folders), but why "fix" something that is not broken?
MS: Please stop adding features for the sake of adding features. This is a business utility, not some teeny-bopper social media platform that needs constant visual tweaks for kids with ADHD.
Please remove this god-awful new setting, having to placate 60+ users all whining about the update is doing me fecking head it.
Thankfully "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun\OfficeC2RClient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=16.0.13901.20462 works.
Yep, this is the only method I have found that works, though I am having to run it every day...and on 10 other colleague's PCs with a mixture of Outlook 2016 & 2019.
Interestingly, MS365 version of Outlook appears to work as MS intended - always pops down, albeit still with large icons and wasted space & no scroll bar.
Any fix for this yet? My customers are going crazy. Also rolling back to older version is not a solution.
Certainly not a solution, only a very short term work around. Remote into work on a Saturday night to send some emails and find that updates had run and it was broken again. Note to self: turn off Office updates .....
Manuel Medina's suggestion is the only method I have found that works, though I am having to run it every day...and on 10 other colleague's PCs with a mixture of Outlook 2016 & 2019.

Hallelujah, it looks like Microsoft has released a new version with a fix:
