Outlook connection Status shows Different display name than my ID.

Good day!

I am using Office2016 professional and connect over Office365.

In the system tray if you hold Ctrl and right click Outlook and check Connection Status. I can see one of records has a display name of my colleague.

Does anyone know what is the problem? I have checked all my mailbox and calendar settings, I did not share anything with this colleague.

Hi @JonnyBJ-8311,

According to your screenshot, there's only 1 record that displays wrong name, have you opened or added his folder/mailbox in your mailbox recently? And did it still exist if you restart your Outlook client?

I did not share anything with this colleague.

As I know, it would display other name when you are opening other mailbox or folder, so it's suggested to further check if you have open/add other mailbox in your mailbox. We could check it via File>Account settings>Account settings>double-click your account>Advanced

If the issue still exists or you actually have checked it, in order to further confirm if the issue is related to your client or your account itself, it's suggested to log in your account on other Outlook client to check if the issue has any difference.

If it could work normally on other client, the issue may be related to your client, in order to avoid the interference of corrupted Outlook profile, it's suggested to recreate a new Outlook profile and readd your account for testing(Control Panel> Mail>Show profiles>Add>readd your account)

If your issue has any update, please feel free to post back.

Hi Jade,

Thanks for the answer.

I already checked on my account setting and I have not having any other mailbox open. I checked also the Active Directory setting, I have no any delegation on exchange, etc. I am not Azure admin, so maybe I should ask for checking that?

BTW, since I am working remotely, I do not have another PC to test. This will be arranged when I can go to office. I will keep everyone posted for the test from another PC.

Hi @JonnyBJ-8311,

Thanks for your update and sorry for delay, have you performed related tests now? I'm still researching for your issue.

Did the wrong record display the full address(like user@domain.com) or just the user name? Based on my test, it would display other user name when we set any full access permission on exchange server, please kindly check if that's your case.

If that's not your case, as I know, there may be no other option in Outlook that would assign/get permission for other users, if it could be reproduced on other clients, I think there may be any errors on your mailbox itself, in order to troubleshoting it better, it's recommended to open a service ticket to get more help.

Thanks for you understanding and hope your issue would be resolved soon.

Sorry Jade. I was off co

I have contacted couple of my colleagues who is managing exchange and M365. They told me that when I open other's folder/calendar, this will be displayed. (Full account name@domain name.

So this behavior should be normal. I tested and looks they are correct.

What is not normal for me is, for anyone else, when I close their calendar and with an Outlook reboot, the display name is gone.

But only for this specific colleague, it always displayed, I checked everywhere, made sure I did not open anything from him, but it refused to disappear.

I do not think this is very serious issue or security breach so maybe we will just let it be?

Thanks for all your post.

BTW, I did have a chance to test this on another new PC. You were right, the issue is not showing on another Outlook client.
Looks like my profile on my PC may have remembered something.

I have been off so did not have enough time to recreate my mail profile. I will try when I have time.

Hi @JonnyBJ-8311
Thanks for your update. Agree with you, it usually occurs when we open other's folder and calendar. So I think it’s worth trying to create a new Outlook profile for test.

Looking forward to your update, have a nice day :)
