Windows 10 Pro, Linux guest VM, and off-line files

Hi Folks,

I have a Windows 10 pro notebook which relies on offline files to keep me productive when I'm not attached to the local network. I have a Linux client VM. How do I configure this arrangement so my Linux client has access to the offline files in the same way the Windows 10 pro host system does?

Thanks for the help,

Chris.

Hi,

Please understand, we are mainly focus on windows OS and we are not familiar with Linux system.

Based on my research, it seems Unison can let you specify directories to sync in Linux system.

Unison is a file-synchronization tool for Unix and Windows. It allows two replicas of a collection of files and directories to be stored on different hosts (or different disks on the same host), modified separately, and then brought up to date by propagating the changes in each replica to the other.

The similar thread has been discussed before, you could have a look:

It now appears that the way to solve this is to run Linux under Hyper-V, and let Windows handle the off-line synchronization. It is not yet clear, since I just got my copy of Windows 10 Pro, if I can "export" my profile from Windows 10 in a form that the Linux guest can access. If I can, then this configuration (Windows 10 Pro running Hyper-V hosting a Linux guest) will meet the requirements. If I can't then Unison will sync my profile to a second disk that will be accessible to the Linux guest. I really hope I can do this with native Microsoft tools... Stay tuned...

I have discovered \\wsl$ which lets Widows see Linux. I don't yet know how to let Linux see Windows. Suppose I want to edit documents i my profile "Documents" archive. How do I do that?

Thanks for the help,

Chris.
