Does Global VNET Peering Use a Dedicated Connection Between Regions?

Is there a dedicated connection between Azure regions or does it otherwise traverse the internet? I understand that standard inner-region VNET peering will utilize the existing private Azure network within the region to send traffic between two connected VNETs. Is this the same for Global VNET peering? Does Azure lease dedicated fiber lines in the Transatlantic fiber run that creates a private connection between two or more Azure regions?

Hi Mattorahood,

Yes, traffic between two VNET in different region connected over global VNET peering are routed via Azure Backbone routers and will not traverse via Internet. The traffic will never leave Microsoft network and each regions are connected with each other using Azure Backbone network.

Let me know if you need any further clarifications.
