Addition of NIC and NIC Team on Cluster

Hi Experts,

We have recently installed Three HP DL360 Servers with SAN (HYPER-V Failover Cluster)

I want to add more Nic 1 Per Server and total 3 (Enable Team on each server) on LIVE - MIGRATION network as shown below so can i do like that

  1. IP Assignment on new NIC

  2. Make Part of VLAN

  3. Configure NIC Team

Are there any other steps hope that it will not affect my cluster configuration specially CSV or do i need to Validate Cluster or it is not requires

Hi,

Thanks for your posting!

1) You can follow the guidance in this article to configure NIC teaming, the feature of NIC teaming has hardly changed since it was introduced in Windows Server 2012, so you don't have worry about your server version too much:

https://www.vembu.com/blog/configure-nic-teaming-hyper-v/

https://robertsmit.wordpress.com/2013/02/05/windows-server-2012-hyper-v-cluster-with-nic-teaming-ws2012-vswitch/

(Please note: Information posted in the given link is hosted by a third party. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy and effectiveness of information.)

2) Based on my research, configuration NIC teaming, by design, should not influence the settings in your cluster. However, we still strongly suggest you to backup your settings in your cluster before you set up NIC teaming, for instance, conducting cluster validation can be a reasonable precautions.

3) NIC teaming will effectively disable the RDMA capability of the network adapters. If you want to use SMB Direct and the RDMA capability of the network adapters, you should not use NIC Teaming.

Thanks for your understanding and support!

Joan
