Outlook 2019 profile keeps getting corrupted for 1 user

I have a user that has Office 2019 (retail, not 365). Her outlook profile keeps getting corrupted. I have created new profiles numerous times, and it only works for a day. The next time the machine boots up, she gets the error "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The operation failed". Earlier this week I went as far as creating a new user account. No joy, still doing the same thing. She has three 365 mailboxes configured. A different user on the same machine has the same setup (3 mailboxes), and his account works flawlessly. Not sure where to go with this; if it was a 365 app, I could get MS support directly, but it's not, so I can't.

Hi,

I tried to post this yesterday, but the site just hung when I hit post. This Q&A site is horrible. Unresponsive, slow, tedious.

At any rate, the problem is resolved. There was a problem with permissions on one of the accounts. It's a pity that the error message was so vague and ambiguous.

Many thanks for your time and response.

Take care, stay safe,
Tim

Hi ,

I went as far as creating a new user account, A different user on the same machine has the same setup (3 mailboxes),

Did you create a new windows user account or a mailbox? Did this different user configure his accounts on this machine with a same windows user profile or a different windows profile?

Did this issue occur only recently? If so, have you performed any specific operations before it(such as install any add-ins or programs)?

In order to avoid the interfence of COM add-ins, it's suggested to restart your Outlook in safe mode when the error prompt to check if you could work normally, if you could open it in safe mode, the issue may be related to any com add-ins, please try to disable any COM add-ins to check (File>Options>Add-ins>COM add-in, Go>uncheck it)

If that's invalid, for Microsoft 365 user, we supply the SaRA tools to troubleshooting the "Outlook won't start" issue, it's suggested to download it to check if it could work for you.

If your issue has any update, please feel free to post back.

Thank you for your reply.

Already tried safe mode, doesn't work, already tried SaRA also. There are no add-ins. Just for fun, I added this users' accounts on a new, out-of-the-box laptop yesterday, and just let it sit overnight. Looked perfectly normal this morning. Rebooted the laptop and boom, here we go again. So it's not the laptop, not Outlook. Must be something to do with the mailbox. I haven't opened a ticket with 365 support yet, because they won't support retail versions of Office. I think I have sufficiently narrowed this down to being an Exchange problem.

Hi @TimToles-7952,

Thanks for your update, could other account work normally on this Outlook client ? And is the version of Outlook in your laptop same with the original outlook client?

In order to check your account and confirm the issue, it's suggested to log in your owa to check if it could work normally there. And we could also check the connectivity status between outlook and server via it : https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/tests/o365

If it wouldn't display any errors there, the issue may not be related to your account, in order to further confirm it, we could try to configure other account in this Outlook to check if other account could work normally in this case.

If your issue has any update, please feel free to post back :)
