SCCM drivers not installing via PXE

Hi all,

I am having a bit of a nightmare with OSD deployment. We are on an unsupported version of SCCM (1906) with ADK version 1809. Unfortunately I am not allowed to upgrade SCCM at the minute.

The issue we are having is that we have received a new Model of Lenovo laptop, which wouldn't boot. So weimported the latest WinPE drivers for that model into the boot image so we could load a TS. We then imported the new drivers into the TS. I cannot get the new model to build correctly, the NIC drivers and other drivers never install during the TS, even though it reports as successfully installed during the TS.

I can get it to build, if I use the same TS, but use an external USB NIC and USB boot media. The build completes successfully, we can then remove the USB NIC and the onboard NIC works fine.

Our 3rd party build centre uses PXE and I cannot get the machines to build correctly. Every time at the end of the build 10 to 15 drivers are missing including the NIC drivers.

Any ideas as to what is going on here? The bootable media is created using the same boot image we are using for PXE. The logs do not mention any errors during the drivers install and report as successful each time.

Regards
Kevin

How are you importing the drivers? Which model is it?

Consider to quit using Driver Packages or Auto Apply Drivers step and move to the standard package for drivers together with DISM. It will speed up your modeling in a future a lot: https://docs.recastsoftware.com/ConfigMgr-Docs/TaskSequence/SCCM-TaskSequence-Package-Drivers-DISM.html

Hi,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft MECM Q&A forum.

1.Please help check the smsts.log, setuperr.log and setupact.log to see if there is any useful information.

2.Please try to redistribute the NIC drivers, boot images and OS images.

Refer to: Add drivers to a Windows 10 deployment with Windows PE using Configuration Manager

Best regards,
Simon
