DNS record not updating when Moving to different netowrk (On-Prem)

When moving the PC from one network to another network the DNS record is not updating it self?

  • I added a PC to the Domain when in Network A

  • THe DNS entry was added properly.

Then
- I moved the PC to NETWORK B (Same Domain)
- Assigned a new IP.
- The DNS record was not updated.
- Able to ping the IP but not the computer name

Checked the DNS record. The only thing i dont see is the computer account "computername$"
- if I added the account manually or delete the existing DNS entry, the new entry is created and everythign is good.

So want to know what could be the root cause of this issue

I'd check the required ports are flowing between the networks.

Does ipconfig /registerdns work?

Hi ,

Checked the DNS record. The only thing i dont see is the computer account "computername$"

1.Who is the owner of this DNS record now?

2.How did you assign IP address? By DHCP or manually?

3.Try to run ipconfig /registerdns on the client and check if DNS record can be updated successfully.

4.Check the event log to see if there are something related for us to do troubleshooting.

Best Regards,
Candy
