Backup and restore Outlook settings

I am trying to find the registry key that will backup and restore a user's Outlook reading pane location settings so that when a user gets a new machine the reading pane appears as it did on their old laptop. The only articles I see are one's to disable the reading pane.

I found this registry key, HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\preferences, which will restore some settings, but I have yet to find the file or registry key that controls the reading pane location. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @JohnCooke-0587,
Considering your issue may be more related to Outlook desktop client, in order to solve it better, I add outlook tag under your post, thanks for your understanding :)

Hi @JohnCooke-0587,

As I know, there's no option that could export and import the reading pane setting directly in Outlook.

Based on my research and tests, I have tried to copy and move some view settings files(such as local .xml file under Outlook roaming folder), but it still in vain. Then I tried to test via process monitor and found it would modify the register value under your profile when we change the location of reading pane(right to bottom), it seems to the setting is stored in your profile instead of local file. However, due to the value is different for different profile in my test, I'm afraid we couldn't restore the settings directly.

In this case, it's recommended to record the setting locally via screentshot or other ways and re-set it manually in the new machine, hope that would be helpful to you.
