Upgrading Windows 10 from older versions to 20H2

Hey everyone,

We just finished migrating to Windows 10 (about 800 devices, 580 physical and rest virtual), but we're now facing the challenge of standardizing to a specific version and we're considering version 20H2

As many of you, most of our workforce is now remote and we use a combination of DirectAccess which is being replaced by a third-party VPN solution. This is the user population that concerns me the most for this challenge.

As for applications, we use apps such as MS Office 365, Adobe Reader, AutoDesk AutoCAD applications and a some third-party apps, and my users' Desktop/Documents/Pictures is OneDrive protected.

Now, my research tells me that Task Sequence Upgrade will give me more granular options in case I want to customize this process, but I keep coming back to Windows 10 Servicing as a better option for my environment, yet my remote users cause me concern.

I was wondering what your experience has been in the field?

Hello,
Are you using IBCM based SCCM or are you in CMG. if you are with IBCM I would suggest to use task sequence approach which would allow you to customise the sequence, precache the content and check compat and upgrade. If you are on CMG,then using task sequence and download the content from CMG would increase your azure bill. You can consider windows servicing from sccm and allow endpoints to download content from Microsoft update service. Additionally ,you can also explore windows update for business either using intune or GPO which ever you feel appropriate for your clients.

Regards

Hi, thanks for your comment.

I'm really trying to avoid my users having to initiate the upgrade or go to a share to start the process.

I was looking more for what has worked for some of you and why this worked for you.

If your security policy doesn't meet the requirement, you may need to consider other methods
