Dynamic Storage Tiering - Scale out file server

Hi Everyone,

I would like to know if scale-out file server with storage space supports dynamic tiering. Basically, I want to put old data on cheaper storage, and more recent data on SSD storage.

looking at some blog posts, https://msandbu.org/storage-tiering-for-scale-out-file-server-jbod-sas/
It appears that you can create a single volume using SSD + HDD. However, I don't find any information on how the hot & cold data be defined and subsequently moved to different tiers.

Is there an option to dynamically move the data between these 2 tiers based on some conditions like the last modified date or something else?

Thanks,
Navdeep

Hi,
For the hot and cold difference, you might refer to this:

And for storage tiering, this might help:

Hi,
Doesn’t have to.
My problem is I checked Microsoft docs but I failed to find any article that explains your questions well. Thus I had to provide with you third party articles.
If you want, maybe you can check this one:

Thanks for your time.

Hi, @YuhanDeng-MSFT there is still no clarity whether dynamic tiering is possible that can automatically move cold data to cheaper storage.

Hi,
I did some research but it seems that there’s no official documents related to this topic.
I would suggest you contact Microsoft Customer Support and Services where more in-depth investigation can be done so that you would get a more satisfying explanation and solution to this issue. In addition, if the issue has been proved as system flaw, the consulting fee would be refund. You may find phone number for your region accordingly from the link below.
