MECM/SCCM 2021-05 Update Mess

Hi all

It looks like Microsoft introduced a new detection behavior within MECM/SCCM/WSUS.

The Cumulative Update is only detected when the Stack Update is installed.

I see why this has been done like that but it has one big issue with it.

This month we have

  • Stack update

  • Cumulative Update (reboot required)

  • .Net Framework Update (reboot required)

  • SQL 2017 CU Update (reboot required)

So what happen on server that need the stack update, CU and for example .Net Framework?

MECM/SCCM will detect and install

  • Stack update

  • .Net Framework Update (reboot required)

and then waits for a reboot to install the Cumulative Update and then of course a second reboot is required....

@microsoft

Please fix this....

Best wishes

Hi

I do Case 2 since years. But this time (due to the new detection logic) it doesn't work like you described in Case 2.

Best wishes

Hello.

You group these updates by SUG and perform the deployment, It will install the SSU, then the CU and FRAMEWORK and according to the deployment configuration it will restart only once or 2.

Case 1: Deployment configuration with automatic restart (The behavior will be 2 restarts)

Case 2: Deployment configuration without reboot (the patches will be installed and the reboot has to be manual).

I hope I have helped you.

Best regards.
