Sharing permissions for Google Calendar

Our smallish non-profit recently transitioned to Outlook 365 and I have a question about individual staff sharing Outlook calendar with personal Google accounts. I have successfully integrated my Google calendar into my Outlook calendar, which works great when I am at work. Our organization discourages staff from viewing work accounts on personal devices, so when I'm not working, I prefer to use my Google calendar for viewing my work and personal calendars together.

I was able to add my Outlook calendar to my Google calendar with the .ics link and received no errors. The calendar appears in the list of other calendars, but no appointments show up.

We do not have IT/tech people on staff. I, in my very limited tech knowledge, am one of the people with admin access and can view our organization's sharing permissions settings. The default sharing permissions under Individual Sharing are for 1)Sharing all details with domain "Anonymous" and 2) sharing free/busy information with "All domains". Is there something that needs to be changed there in order to allow staff to share their Outlook calendars to personal Google (or other) accounts?

I have seen instructions for sharing Outlook to Google by making the Outlook calendar public and sharing the public URL, but this seems insecure. Especially since I would want to share all event details with myself.

Apologies for the low-tech description of the problem and TIA for any ideas!

Hi @NellSaundersScott-3300,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

As I know, if you would like to share calendar items from Office 365 to Gmail and make shared calendar items synced, the Publish method(Public URL) you mentioned seems to be the only way to achieve that.

Regarding security anxiety, considering that we are sharing calendar information between different platforms and different organizations, I'm afraid that it hard to make things absolutely safe. What we can do to protect our information as much as possible is to protect the publish URL from being accessed by other users and grant lower permissions like "Can view titles and locations".

Hope this can be helpful.

I tried the "Publish" function described above but only some of the Outlook calendar events displayed in the Google calendar. I've settled on using the iPhone Calendar app for viewing my Google and Outlook calendars together when I'm away from my work laptop. Still frustrating that sharing to Google doesn't work for me as described, but the iPhone calendar app is working just fine. Thanks for the help.

Hi @NellSaundersScott-3300,
I did some more tests and everything seems just work fine. Please make sure you have correctly added the published ICS link instead of the published HTML link. By the way, have you set your Gmail calendar view as Monthly view instead of Weekly view? Display issues might happen like yours if you are using Weekly view in Gmail.

Hope this could help.
