An error occured while trying to create the Microsoft 365 group with the alias 'PDO' : 'The group alias already exists.'.

Hi there

I deleted /sites/SiteA 2 days ago and checked the option to delete the associated MS Team etc. Even after 48 hours when I try to create a new Teams site with the same URL /sites/SiteA, I get this error

An error occured while trying to create the Microsoft 365 group with the alias 'PDO' : 'The group alias already exists.'.

Any thoughts on how to get past this, please?

Thank you so much.

Hi @frob-0826 ,

Does this error still persist now? Per my test, a few minutes after I deleted the site, I can rebuild a new site with this name. You could try to delete this M365 Group in SharePoint Admin center>Groups and try again to see if it works.

I still have this issue even after several days of site deletion.
Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks.

In the SharePoint Admin Center, I am unable to see any Groups link/section.

Any thoughts, please?

Thank you.

Hi, you could check the Group in the Microsoft 365 Admin center:

There's a "grace" period after you delete a site/group, if you want to speed things up you need to "hard delete" them.

How do I hard delete them?
So far I just deleted the site from SP Online Admin and checked the box to delete the associated assests.

Thanks.

Go to the SPO Admin center > Sites > Deleted sites or here directly: https://tenantname-admin.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/online/AdminHome.aspx#/recycleBin
Or use PowerShell.
