Determine the value of "Default" Instance Limits in App Service Scale Out configuration

Hi All,

Below is a snapshot of the App Service Plan Scale Out configuration. What should be set in the value of the "Default" option for the instance limits. I have highlighted the same in the snapshot below.

Also, what is the possibility of occurrence of the problem of reading the resource metrics, on the basis of which scale out/scale in happens.

Please let me know

Thanks,
SuvraJyoti

Hello @suvrajyoti-2505,

When your autoscale rules are applied, the instance limits make sure that you do not scale out beyond the maximum number of instances or scale in beyond the minimum of instances. The default limit is there because in case there is a problem reading the resource metrics and the current capacity is below the default capacity, then to ensure the availability of the resource, Autoscale will scale out to the default. If the current capacity is already higher than the default capacity, Autoscale will not scale in. Therefore, select a default instance count that's safe for your workloads. It is safe to have your default limit be the same value as the minimum limit.

Please read this doc to learn more autoscale best practices.

Can you please elaborate on your second question? Can you clarify what you mean by "possibility of occurrence "

Thanks,

Grace

Thanks Grace,

For "Can you clarify what you mean by "possibility of occurrence " ",i mean frequency of occurrence of the problems of resource metrics not being read, i mean will it be like 1 in 100 , less than that etc.

Thanks,
Suvrajyoti
