Office Profesional 2007 slow opening file in explorer

When I open a .docx or .doc in file explorer by double clicking on it, it is very slow.
If I open a blank document and then open a file it loads the way it should, quite fast.
I then close the document I am working on and the blank document that I open first disappears.
Also if I open another document and then open one in file explorer it opens fast.
I am running Windows 10 latest version on a Dell desktop with 64 gig memory.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office and removed all add-ons.
any suggestions would be appreciated.
I checked Excel and it does the same thing.

I wish to thank everyone for the help, I did find the problem.
It is the NVIDIA LocalSystem Container service I disabled it and no longer have the problem. I am going to contact NVIDIA and see if they have a fix.

I have the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti video card.

Thanks again for your help.

This, to some extent depends on the system you are using.
However, both Excel and Word are fairly large programs. Word actually loads in parts. Some parts, like building blocks, do not load until you try to use them. I suspect Excel does the same.

If one of these is already running it is fairly simple (and quick) to open another file. The program, itself, does not need to be loaded, only the document.

I often keep Word open on my computer for this reason, although I usually open files from within Word. With 64 Gb of RAM you should be able to afford to do this. The load on the CPU is not high in the background.

Here is a shot of my Task Manager screen with two versions of Word and one of Excel running but not holding the focus. (I am using a Dell i5 laptop with 32 Gb of RAM)

Note Word 2007 is no longer supported by Microsoft, but continues to work as well as it has. It will not be receiving even security updates, though.

Device name Dell-i9
Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-11900K @ 3.50GHz 3.50 GHz
Installed RAM 64.0 GB (63.7 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
a 1tb ssd and a 2tb sata

I have a slower computer that has no problem with the program and loads quick.
Word was working find and all of a sudden it had problems. It was after My virus program updated and rebooted the computer, I am using Bitdefender Total security.
I did a complete uninstall of Bitdefender and a complete reinstall of office without Bitdefender. Did not solve the problem.
Contacted Bitdefender and working with them as to what changed.

I show one Microsoft Office Word in task manager.

I show two because I am running Word 2010 and Word 365 simultaneously. I can't tell you about Bit Defender. I started using only Windows Defender a number of years back..

Again, I recommend simply leaving Word running. I do not see any drawback to that even if it should not be needed.

BTW: I usually have more than 15 add-ins load so I always have to wait a few seconds for Word to load initially.

Hi @OrlanYork-6085

Please navigate to C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates, you may see Normal.dotm (generally is this name) in it.
Try deleting it to see the result.
Word will automatically creates a new one next time you start Word.

By the way, as CharlesKenyon-8472 said, support for Office 2007 ended on October 10, 2017.
To get better user experience, it's recommended to upgrade to a newer version of Office so you can stay up to date with all the latest features, patches, and security updates.

Deleting the Normal template should never be a troubleshooting step. Renaming the template with Word closed will do everything good that deleting would do, without losing valuable customizations. This is especially true when nothing changes.

That is one of the first things I did was to delete Normal.dotm.
I know that support for Office 2007 ended but a new office is expensive. I do not use the cloud for anything so would want one to install on my computer.
