We are running our internal PaperCut server on Windows server 2012 R2 that has been working fine for a while. However, more or more frequently, we came into server hanging issue that it was stuck at "Please Wait" screen when trying to remotely log on.
The server was a VM hosted as part of our ESXi physical machine, then I tried to access it via web console but it seemed hanging due to Windows Updates. See attached screenshot.
I had to reboot the server then it resumed normal. The annoying part is that it has been a repeated issue and a headache for us.
I further checked that Windows Update has NOT been applied on this server since May 2020. Is this the root cause that we have to apply all the updates first?
It would be stuck around once every 7-10 days currently... One additional question is - will Windows Update cause system hanging like this and was that because Windows Update consumed a lot of resources and automatically running on our server?
We checked with PaperCut support but they confirmed nothing wrong with their software.
I'm running out of ideas and any idea or experience-sharing would be really appreciated!
