Hi @dssds-4091,

As per the error it seems you are trying to perform an in-place upgrade from Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard to a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard (Evaluation), is this correct?

You cannot perform an in-place upgrade with the evaluation media, you'll need to get the retail media for Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.

For more information, see:

Upgrade Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 R2

Are you saying Windows Server have different methods on in-place compared to consumer versions like Windows 10 etc?

When purchasing, you purchase a license key to use. What your saying then is a retail version of Windows server is different to an evaluation, converted to full?

is this correct? I gathered all bits were the same.. The only thing that changes is the license. As long as it's genuine, i gathered that was all that counted.
