Windows Server 2016 Black Screen

Hello community,

I have an RDS farm which contains 3 Windows Servers 2016.

Since a few months ago, a black screen appeared and it has never been resolved .

After I reboot the 3 servers , it's ok for a few hours.

I tried this ( delete the firewall entries at one hours everyday , from this path ) :

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\RestrictedServices\Configurable\System

And also we created for the user profile, to create a registry that will delete at logoff :

Add “DeleteUserAppContainersOnLogoff” (DWORD) in “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy” and set it to 1.

We also found this : https://itcalls.net/windows-10-version-1809-black-screen-when-connecting-rdp-to-server-2019/ - not working .

We tried the time syncing, not worked .

We were connected on the servers, and we notice that, even connected when the black screen appears, we couldn't open File Explorer, or Task Manager, nothing. We could only see what we have opened already or minimize applications that we already opened.

All users are affected. Users have no disconnected sessions. Users have no corrupted profiles

From hypervisor console we have the same issue as in RDP. We can only do force reboot, no access to server when black screen appears.

The issue is still here.

Does anyone has any ideas ?

Thank you.

I recently had this issue on a Domain controller running Server 16. The issue was UAC. The GUI that sets UAC to never notify is not the most efficient way to disable it and honestly doesnt disable it. Follwo these instructions:

Open Windows Registry : Start > run> type regedit.

Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System. ...

In the right pane, modify the value of the EnableLUA DWORD value to 0: ...

Restart your computer.

For me in a Windows 2019 server all the services and registry keys were ok but in Vmware console and Rdp conection only showed properly the GUI for domain administrator user. The problem in 2 servers, both Domain Controllers.
With other users, new and old users, with refreshed profiles folders and profile keys, but after properly login only black screen is displayed without option even for open Task Manager, only Ctrl+Alt+Del and Close session, block o change password, summing up, nothing.

This changed following this answer Changing in Registry (Start > run> type regedit) in the Key placed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System changing the value of the key "EnableLUA" DWORD from value 1 to 0.

I don´t know the reason. With and without firewall and antivirus, the problem continued. And all windows updates installed; and even the updates of all the year unninstalled and the same or worse.

Thank you.

Hello @OrlescuAndreea-5036 ,

1.Is there any error message in the event log?
2.Did you try to kill the process audiodg.exe and check if the issue will disappear?

Good morning @LeilaKong-MSFT ,

1 . We couldn't find any event related to the black screen.
2 . I tried to kill the audiodg.exe , but there wasn't the process running .

I checked the links you send it :

1 . Ctrl+Shift+Esc > Task manager > File > Run > CMD > shutdown /r /f /t 1 - not working .
2 . January 10, 2017 (KB3213986) update to Server 2016. If you have installed all the latest updates on the server and are still seeing this issue please reply back. - we have all the updates.
3 . (ctrl+alt+end for remote RDP)then logof off logged users, then check processes and disconnect of winlogon processes. - didn't worked.

Many thanks! But the issue is still going ...
