I just enabled bitlocker on my windows 10 laptop. Bitlocker is not accepting my usb recovery nor my password !

Basically my computer is inaccessible. I’m keep trying to exit to windows 10 and the screen returns back to “ enter your “recovery key” or “load recovery from usb device”. Nothing is working. I don’t know why my computer did not accepting the usb device nor
manually entering the key.

Hello there,

There can be many causes for the issue. Before we digging into this problem, would you please provide more detailed info about it?
1.What is your OS version? Did it have any change since the bitlocker performed?

2.Did the encryption normally performed?
Due to the particularity of BitLocker, once there is a pause or non-artificial stop, shutdown, corruption, etc. during the encryption process, the operation of BitLocker encryption will be effectively useless.
Let us know if that happened.

3.When saying “Bitlocker is not accepting my usb recovery nor my password”,
Is this “password” your computer password or the 6*8 number?
Here is the guidance to find BitLocker recovery key:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/finding-your-bitlocker-recovery-key-in-windows-10-6b71ad27-0b89-ea08-f143-056f5ab347d6

Above information will help us research your issue. For now, here are some steps you can take to try resolving this issue:
Step 1 Update
As far as we know, lack of specific update patches may cause similar problem.
I suggest you install all the latest updates before trying to unlock the BitLocker driver.

Step 2 Try Commandline
Please try to use the command line
"repair-bde -RecoveryKey Volume:PathToRecoveryKey "
to repair the bitlock and use the command
"manage-bde –unlock F: -recoverykey "G:\Backupkeys\recoverykey.bek"
(Disk G as an example for path)to have a test.

Let us know the results after performing these methods. It would be helpful if you can post photo of the exact screen when this issue happens. If you have further questions or concerns, please come back and tell us. I am standing by to help you.

Hi Samson,

1)Okay so initially my computer’s hard drive failed 2 years ago so got a new ssd drive and installed windows 10 on it.

2) as far as I remember, nothing suspicious happened when I first installed bitlocker. I chose to install the recovery key on my usb and it successfully put the file in it.

3) for the password, when I type in my Bitlocker password the computer does not do anything besides takes me to the recovery key screen. The computer is not recognizing the bitlocker recovery key when I type it in manually and when I insert the usb. Somethings extremely fishy going on here.

I have to note that I had to enable bitlocker manually because the computer was not allowing bitlocker to enable without the TPM chip.

Thank you for your time Samson.

Hi nebzfarhadi-3586,

Have your problem been solved now or it remains?

After trying the two steps above, did any change happen?

Samson,

I’m trying it right now but the command prompt is not taking the “ repair-bde”.

It says “ Invalid syntax. Use “ repair -bde -?” For correct usage”

Try using the step outlined here and see if it helps:
https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000130549/how-to-unlock-bitlocker-when-it-stops-accepting-recovery-keys?lwp=rt

This KB is so fresh that I wonder if this is new Bitlocker issue.

*it would work

The command prompt is saying “ ERROR : The password failed to unlock volume C:”

Then it's BitLocker think your password is not the one used to lock this drive. (Either you remember it wrong, or something bad happened to the drive so that when BitLocker tried to test decrypt the drive with the password you supplied, it fails.)
