Can't delete seat-based subscription to delete an azure active directory.

I want to delete an azure active directory (aceonicsoutlook.onmicrosoft.com) however, it is blocked by some seat-based subscription that is not displayed in the business store. Please check the attached screenshots.

I am having the exact same problem. What was the resolution?

Thank you for the detailed post and screenshots. I was looking into your issue and just wanted to confirm a few things.

Were you able to follow the Delete a tenant in Azure Active Directory article?

  • Are you using the AzureAD admin center or the Azure portal to delete your directory? Are you seeing the same issue in both environments?

  • Additional Links:

    Thank you for your response.

I was not able to follow Delete a tenant in Azure Active Directory because the subscription which needs to be deleted as per the article is not displayed in Microsoft Store For Business or Microsoft 365 Admin center.

I am having the exact same issue with the AzureAD admin center and the Azure portal. Both portals trigger the exact same error when tried to delete the tenant.

    Thank You

Thank you for the response and additional details! I reached out to my team and we decided that the best course of action for this issue would be to create a support request (SR). Once created, can you post the SR number here so I can track and update the thread as needed.

    Thank you!

I tried to do that before posting query here. The problem is when I try to create a New Support Request, there is no option for technical. My query is not related to billing or subscription management. Can you please add this support request from your end, or should I use Billing / Subscription instead of technical?

Subscription management is the correct "issue type" when creating this support request. I see that a subscription isn't automatically populated (since it should be deleted), when creating this support request. This means that you might only have the options of selecting "reserved instance" type of issues, as seen below.

Do you have another subscription where you can create a support ticket? If not, please create a support request, post your SR here, and I will reach out to the support engineer as soon as possible to see if there's anything they can do from their side regarding this issue (i.e. transfer to the right team, or delete your subscription).

If you do have another subscription to create the ticket with, please do so referencing your issue and selecting the "Cancel, switch, or re-enable..." option

Lastly, since you don't have a SubID, I won't be able to open a support ticket on your behalf.

If you experience any issues, please let me know.
Thank you for your time and patience throughout this issue!

I'll post the summary of your issue below.

    Issue:
Can't delete seat-based subscription to delete an azure active directory.

    Troubleshooting:
Doc followed - Delete a tenant in Azure Active Directory
    - AzureAD Admin Center, Azure Portal, Microsoft Store For Business, and Microsoft 365 Admin center, didn't show a subscription to be deleted.

    Recommended Steps:
Since this required further troubleshooting, a Support Request was created.

    RCA:
There was a “WINDOWS_STORE (trial) subscription” under the Tenant that you provided.

    Solution:
Support had to collaborate with internal resources to manually remove this subscription. (~3 day period after deletion for it to update on your Tenant).

Thank you for your time and patience throughout this issue.
