Kiosk (assigned access) problems (no tablet mode, black screen Error code 0xffffffff

I have a kiosk system involving Edge browser in tablet mode (to get the on screen keyboard) to show a webpage on localhost. After upgrade to 20H2, it started to cause problems.

If I use Settings, Assigned access and select to use an existing user (which has enabled tablet mode), I get a black screen at reboot.

If I use Settings, Assigned access and select to create a new user, I get the edge webpage that I want in kiosk mode, but the tablet mode is not enabled hence no on screen keyboard.

If I use deployment toolkit, I end up getting a blue screen and the error 0xffffffff regardless of the settings I try to configure (with edge as the program).

Any suggestions on how to solve this issue?

Regards, Lars.

HI Lars-3668,

"If I use Settings, Assigned access and select to create a new user, I get the edge webpage that I want in kiosk mode, but the tablet mode is not enabled hence no on screen keyboard."

Please create a task scheduler to run touch.bat to enable tablet mode then check if screen keyboard will work fine for existed account (or new created user account) in kiosk mode

We follow my mentioned steps in below link:

On screen keyboard not working in kiosk mode

Yeah - this Kiosk is giving me headache.

As is it now, I can't get anything else than a black screen when Kiosk mode is enabled. Don't really know how to go on with this issue other than to throw the towel and reinstall.

In that case it would be the second time I reinstall this Kiosk.

HI Lars-3668,

1.Did you customize image then deploy previous win10 system?

2.If we do clean boot then check if the same issue happen?

3.If your issue computer joined to AD domain, we can unjoin to AD domain then check if the issue happen?

1) installed from scratch, then configured assigned access. Worked until broken by probably Windows update. Tried using deployment toolkit to deploy kiosk... as it is now, regardless of what I do with kiosk enabled with Edge, I get a black screen. It works if I setup calculator as the kiosk application, but not Edge

2) Clean boot?

3) PC is not domain joined.

1.Clean boot? Yes

2."regardless of what I do with kiosk enabled with Edge"
Did your broswer is edge for chromium?

3.If we not enable tablet mode and enable kiosk mode, will the same issue happen?

Well it doesn't really matter what ever I do when Kiosk mode is enabled with Edge - tablet mode or not. (I think... I will double check tomorrow)

I think all problems started with an update. When I enable Kiosk and select Edge as app, there are actually two Edge icons. One just solid blue and another "real" one.

HI

"there are actually two Edge icons. "
Please check if the "old Edge" is upgrading to newer version of Edge(or "Edge for edge chromium")in background, but finally it fail.

Today I tried to create a multi-app kiosk with Windows 11 Enterprise. Unfortunately I had to find out that this is no longer possible. Windows 11 has no "tablet mode".
