Cannot Open port 587

I am a student and using the azure student services to learn more about self hosting and whatnot.

i have an issue with opening port 587 to create a mailserver on my linux VM. I was using the Networking tool on the azure dashboard but it seems like no matter what i do the port remains closed. Is there a way to open it?

also as far as i can tell the Guest VM has no internal firewall enabled (firewalld/ufw)

nmap shows for example

587/tcp closed submission

@JohnSViN-1726 Firstly we apologize for the delay in response to your question.

I understand that you are unable to open port 587 to create a mailserver on your Linux VM, hwoever, the port remains closed. Could you share the Security Group configuration for this VM by looking at the effective security rules view on Azure Portal for this VM/subnet? You can also utilize the Network Watcher to troubleshoot connectivity issues to your VM as shown here in this document.. Thank you!
