Windows RDP. Use multiple monitors of target machine.

Hi dear community!

I'm trying to solve the problem with using multiple (2 in my case) monitors via Windows RDP.

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/security-compliance-and-identity/using-multiple-monitors-in-remote-desktop-session/ba-p/246840

I already visit this link but it does not help. And looks like not what I need (I need to have opportunity to use multiple monitors of target machine, not client)

Lets talk about what the problem is. I use my PC for programming purposes, but I have not opportunity to use it directly that's why I use my laptop and connect to my PC via RDP (through the same Wi-Fi). Also I use my Samsung TV as a second monitor (connected via HDMI). And when I use my PC directly both monitors works fine. But when I connected remotely - it does not.

For now when I'm connected remotely I see "This display can't be changed from remote session" on my remote Desktop on Display settings.

Also I want to notice that when I Sign Out from current user my second monitor (Samsung TV) get turned off. I think this is ok, but may be I'm wrong...

The main question: is it possible to connect to PC via RDP (from laptop for example) and to use both monitors of target machine as it is when I directly connected to PC?

Also if needed I can attach screenshot of the other program (TeamViewer) that gives me such an opportunity, may be it will shed light. There I can switch between both monitors of target machine and use both of them.

Also I tried to use Quick Assist (as one great guy advised me, one more thanks to Jason_Guo) and it hits my problem, but it is a little bit uncomfortable, slowly and that why hard to use.

I try to discuss this topic previously in community forum. The original link is below.

    Hello @PartyZanUA ,

    Thanks for your query.

1.When using RDP you can only adjust the view to what you have on the machine not what the host you are connecting to. Span mode will allow you to expand the RDP session to multiple monitors but again that is if you have multiple monitors plugged in on the machine you are connecting from.
I can suggest - TeamViewer - it does have a multiple monitor support and will not mess with the users icon setup. And you can switch between monitors. Plane RDP won't work.
I would also recommend logmein works very well and you can switch between monitors, another option is dameware as works very well.

2.Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Client (version 6.0) supports spanning across multiple monitors.
Only some configurations are supported by Remote Desktop client in span mode:

    • Equal resolution monitors
    • Total resolution of all monitors not exceeding 4096 x 2048
    • Top-left monitor being the primary

To launch RDC in span mode run: "mstsc /span"
The span mode has some restrictions:

    • The primary monitor must be leftmost.
    • The set of monitors must form a rectangle (i.e. identical vertical resolution, and lined up in exact straight line).
    • The total of the resolutions must be below 4096x2048 (ex. 1600x1200+1600x1200 = 3200x1200).

    Hello there dear community!

I solve the problem from the other side. I bought HDMI cabel an connect second monitor to CLIENT machine. Then I just turn on "Use all my monitors for the remote session" on Display tab on Windows RDP connection options.

And now I can use both monitors in my work but utilize my remote PC. That's great solution for me.

Also I made some additional experiment with WiDi (Wireless display, a.k.a. Miracast / Mirroring) and looks like the best way is to buy Miracast adapter for my TV and use it without any cabels... I was worry about ping and something like freezing but I was wrong, ping is not higher than 100ms.

I have similar kind of problem where target machine has got multimonitor and from client device RDP of target machine is being connected.

    • When There is multimonitor tag disabled and RDP is connected, RDP connection displays only on one screen on client side, however inside RDP session both target machines displays are clubbed in.
    • I was looking for a solution, where I can control the display during RDP session something like we had in Team viewer/webex.

    Any help would be appreciated.
