Is Windows Server included in retiring Internet Explorer 11?

Hi.

First, I'm not good at English, so please understand.

I'm using some applications through IE11 on Windows Server 2012 R2.

I want to know Windows Server OS included in retiring IE11.

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-it-pro-blog/internet-explorer-11-desktop-app-retirement-faq/ba-p/2366549

This link says "Server OS unaffected retiring IE11"

so if retire IE11 when June 15, 2022 can Server OS download IE11 related windows update since then?

please help me

Hi @holollollol-8511,

Internet Explorer is a component of the Windows operating system (OS) and follows the Lifecycle Policy for the product on which it is installed and supported.

As the link states, the Windows Server LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel), that is Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, 2016 and 2019 are not affected by this as of this announcement.

You should still be able to receive Internet Explorer 11 related updates after June 15, 2022, the following site might give a better view:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/faq/internet-explorer-microsoft-edge

Hi,

Welcome to Q&A platform.

If the versions of Windows server were not mentioned in the following table, it will not be affected for this change. So if IE11 was retired in June 15, 2022, Windows Server 2012R2 still can download IE11 related windows update.

Support for IE mode follows the lifecycle of current and future Windows Server releases at least through 2029. Additionally, Microsoft will give one year of notice before retiring the IE mode experience when the time comes.

Some editions of Windows may require an ESU license, if available, to receive operating system security updates beyond end of support dates. If support for a version of Windows server ends before 2029, support for IE mode on that version of Windows server ends as well. To continue using IE mode, please migrate to a supported version of Windows server. Windows support dates are documented on the Product Lifecycle page.

Best Regards,
Sunny
