Incorrect disk space usage

Hi!

I was troubleshooting Back pressure issue on my Exchange 2019 CU9 server and found some strange behaviour on the disk that contains exchange binaries and queue database. It's Windows Server 2019 on VMWare virtual machine.
Disk size is 600Gb. Windows explorer shows 50Gb free space, but when I check size of all folders it's only 150Gb.
I have Veaam backup and it show that 500Gb of data was backed up from this disk at night.
After that I've got 300Gb of free space (so it looks like some logs was baccked up and cleared) and all folders are still about 150Gb (see the screenshot).
Sorry about russian interface.

Can anyone explain please what uses this space?
I'm not sure if it's Windows or Exchange issue.

Hi @56522859,

Disk space might show different results if there are folders/files that your account does not have permissions to access, there may also be hidden folders/files.

One good tool to check the real disks pace is for example the TreeSize
https://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free

Or the WinDirStat tool:
https://windirstat.net/

Try comparing your results with these tools.

Thanks for your answer.
I'm an Admin on the server with full access to all disks, but perhaps this data is only available to System account.
Will check this.
Already used Windirstat as Admin and it shows all the same, will try Treesize.

Great! Treesize shows shows 140Gb in SystemVolume information, but what is ther any way to reduce it's size?

The System Volume folder is where the VSS stuff is kept as well as the system restore data and is locked down so only the system can access it.
Do you have shadow copies/Windows Server Backup?

No, VSS is disabled on all volumes, but I know that Veeam is definetely uses VSS for backup.
Will try to contact Veeam support.
Thanks for help!
