HPE 10/25Gbe 631SFP28 drops packets

I have a pair of HPE 10/25Gbe 631SFP28 NIC's, They are not teamed but one used for iscsi and one for the hyperv traffic. Once any VM enabled with SRV-IOV then the hyperv Host server gets disconnected to the rest of the hosts in the same subnet. Also on the switch it creates lots packet drops. NIC is on it's latest Firmware 218.0.166000. Windows OS is Widows 2019 Datacenter edition. Any thoughts will be highly appreciated.

Hi,

In my lab, I did not have such problem with intel NIC. If the issue only occurred on HPE NICs. You would better contact the vendor of HPE to confirm whether HPE NIC has a compatibility issue with the ability of SRV-IOV.

Candy

Thanks for your quick reply. HPE 10/25Gbe 631SFP28 NICs are in SR-IOV compatibility list. They are basically Broadcom Cards. Another question, Does the windows 2019 hyperv show SR-IOV Active or SR-IOV enabled status?

B R,
Manoj

Hi,

For the NIC used for Hyper-V traffic, did you use it create external switch? Then all the VM connect to this external switch? When you create external switch did you enable SR-IOV for this switch?

For external switch, enable advanced settings for VMs' virtual network adapter will not affect the communication of the host.

In your case, I would suspect there is a problem with the VF allocated by the physical network card after SR-IOV is enabled, then the host's PF is affected. You would better contact the vendor of Broadcom to do further troubleshooting.
