Apple CarPlay for Intune

Hello everyone,

Some users in our organization use iPhones, which are enrolled to Intune. I've seen the possibility to include/exclude certain apps from the Apple Store and such, but I've been having a few problems with Apple CarPlay.

Apparently, some of our users cannot "run" CarPlay when they connect the iPhone to their car. Unfortunately, since the users who notified this are on leave right now, I can't tell whether this is their first configuration, or whether the problem is with their car model, or again if they're just using a wrong cable.
I'm sorry I do not have more details on the matter, I've been told just as little, but I'm not looking for an immediate solution to the problem.

Rather, I'd like to hear suggestions from you, and understand which is the most important area to troubleshoot in this case.

As far as I've researched, CarPlay is not a proper "app" you can set and customize on your iPhone (if not for the apps you're shown on the car display). There is no way to activate or deactivate it, it is just a built-in feature.
This meaning that I haven't found an option (neither a way) to register the app on Intune, neither using device restriction configuration profiles for App Store apps or built-in apps, thus I can't edit its settings and more importantly I can't push said settings to multiple devices.

Where should I be looking, then? If not via Intune "Apps", is there any other way to register this software and still manage it globally? Has anyone ever faced a similar problem?
Please let me know wheter you need more information.

Thank you to all of you who'll take a bit of their time to answer this.

Kind regards,
Sim

There is nothing to manage with CarPlay as it's part of iOS and not an app in any way.

I've never had an issue with CarPlay on an Intune managed device.

How are the devices enrolled in Intune?

Hello @Jason-MSFT,

Thank you for your reply.
Thus far, users enroll their devices downloading "Intune Company Portal", log in with their username@azuredomain.it, then download a standard configuration profile.
Once the profile has been downloaded, they open their "Settings" tab, verify their account, install the profile, and should be all done.

@Sim1S-3143 Thanks for posting in our Q&A.
I have never encountered such a problem. I did some searching and try to provide some help.
Could you please check if there are any device restriction policies and try to unassigned them to see if car play starts working?
What is the iOS version? try to upgrade to the latest version.

Hello @JarvisSunMSFT-4279, thank you for replying.

As per iOS version, they should all have 14.x or later, I found out about the iOS version too, but this time it is not the issue.
I do have a configuration profile enabled, I'll try to deactivate and see whether the problem is still there, thank you very much for the suggestion.

I had the same issue. My iOS is 15.2.1 - and it is my first iPhone which I enrolled by Intune.
My iOS config policy is BOYD model.

I update my iPhone to 15.3 iOS - but still CarPlay doesn't work.

I've delete work profile from my iPhone via endpoint manager - but still CarPlay doesn't work.

I believe I have found a solution to this problem. According to the documentation for CarPlay, it depends on the Siri function - it must be turned on - in my case the configuring policy turned off the Siri function.

I made changes to my policy. Tomorrow I will check and come back to you with feedback.

Yes it's work just now fine. You need to enable Siri function for CarPlay. After those changes in configuration policies CarPlay start working again.
