Domain name without ".local" ".lan"

In my new job I check that domain name is like "company", without ".local" or ".lan" (for example "company.local").
Is this big problem?

Should I change domain name or leave this name?

I found more problems, especial a lot of GPO errors. I am thinking about re-creeating the domain (new domain "company.local").

Would it be a good idea to create a new domain and establish a trust relationship between the new and old domains, then gradually move computers and services to the new forest? (there are about 120 computers)
If the old domain is called "company" and the new "company.local" can it be a problem for creating a trust relationship between them?

I'm planning to integrate this domain with Office 365 (mailboxes and maybe Azure). Maybe old domain name "company" will will be problematic to integrate?

Your answer took me to another article https://docs.microsoft.com/pl-PL/troubleshoot/windows-server/identity/deployment-operation-ad-domains
Now I know that must change this situation. In my opinion best will be create new domain.
Is this simply path to migrate accounts to new domain?
I would also like users to keep their profiles on computer accounts. Is this posible?

Hi,
Based on my understanding, if you want to migrate the users or computers to another forest, we can do this by creating the forest trust and using the ADMT tool.
For more details you can refer to the following link:
https://blog.thesysadmins.co.uk/admt-series-1-preparing-active-directory.html

But if the 2 forests have the same NETBIOS name, i'm afraid the forest can't be created.

You may try to rename one of them.
