Azure analysis services - Update client libraries

Hi, we recently receive the email of Azure for informing us that the older client libraries of AAS : MSOLAP, AMO and ADOMD will be not be supported from 30/06/2021.

I'd read the documentation of these libraries but still not sure about the correct actions we need to do for our clients. I list my questions here:

  1. For the users who only explore the data in AAS through PowerBI and Excel but never need to develop the tabular models, do they really need to install all the three libraries?

  2. As our source database could not be connected to AAS, we have an on-premise gateway hosted in a VM on Azure to build the connection. So I'm asking if we need to install/update the AMO and ADOMD for these windows VMs.

Best regards,
Zhiya

Hello @Zhiya-1149,

Thanks for the question and using MS Q&A platform.

This message is a just a reminder email sent by Microsoft to all the customer using Azure Analysis services to update the Azure Analysis services client libraries versions to 19.12.3.0 or higher.

  • If you are using any client libraries [OLEDDB (MSOLAP) or AMO or ADOMD] with the above version versions, you need to upgrade to the latest versions.

  • If you are not using any client libraries, you can just ignore this email.
