Adding additional vm to host pool

Hello,

I have created a windows virtual desktop resource in Azure. In order to test this, we created a host pool as part of the setup wizard and then when it asked how many users and the machine size, it gave us just the one virtual machine with Windows 10. The Windows Virtual Desktop Solution is working well but how do I scale this so I now want to add an additional VM to the newly created pool?

If I search 'azure virtual desktop' in Azure, I can see 'host pools', 'application groups' but there is nothing there. Just wondered how you scale the WVD resources with additional VMs?

Many thanks,

Luke

Hi @LukeChalmers-5772 ,

maybe this link is helpful to add a new VM to the WVD hostpool:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/expand-existing-host-pool

If you already have an existing VM to the WVD hostpool you can just follow the steps in the section Register the virtual machines to the Azure Virtual Desktop host pool of the link below:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/create-host-pools-powershell#register-the-virtual-machines-to-the-azure-virtual-desktop-host-pool

Andreas,

Thank you. I had a look through the first article you sent and it says

In the menu on the left side of the screen, select Host pools, then select the name of the host pool you want to add virtual machines to

However, in the azure virtual desktop settings, I do not see anything in the host pools. I'm assuming that it might be because only one machine was created in the first instance and therefore a 'pool' hasn't been created.

Maybe create the pool and then add the existing VM to it?

Thanks,

Luke

Hi @LukeChalmers-5772 ,

even with only one VM the WVD Hostpool will be created with this VM.

That's the described way, and you can see at the moment there is only one VM in the WVD Hostpool at the moment:
