Lost produt key windows server 2016

Hi

The company changed facilities and in the process lost the key to windows server 2016 essentials, as we can get a new key, we only have the original dvd and purchase invoice we are based in Portugal,

It's doubtful but you might try the reseller to see if they have a record. If an existing server installation you can try a key finder utility.

Hi,
To confirm your question, I’m not sure with “lost the key to windows server 2016 essentials”, is that mean your company lost the product key label of Server 2016 or the PC with Server2016.
If lost the product key label while you still have the PC with Server 2016, you can use below command line in powershell to get the KEY:
(Get-WmiObject -query 'select * from SoftwareLicensingService').OA3xOriginalProductKey
Uninstall it on the old PC and then you can install it on the new one.
If lost the PC and product key either.
The first thing is that even if you retrieve the product key, we can’t assure you the key can be reused to activated another Server 2016 because it is still being in use.
Secondly, the Installation DVD is one of Packaged Software: can be purchased from a retail store, an authorized reseller, or an online reseller. I suggest you contact the reseller for further help since you have the invoice. And here is the link for your reference.

We are really feel for you, In this case, you can try finding that PC back to retrieve the key and pay attention to storing the key label carefully ( a snapshot preserved in phone album or one drive) next time so that prevent it happens again.

Microsoft only does product key validation, they would not have a way to track key ownership. It's even doubtful the reseller would but you might try them to see if they have a record. If an existing windows server installation you can try a key finder utility.
