MSTSC command in shadow mode -Cant resize window inside of viewing window

Using the MSTSC.exe /V: <server name> /shadow: "id of user"
Windows 2019
After connection is established, you can resize the viewing window but not the actual window that you are viewing.
If you click and drag or full screen, the viewing window stays the same and the viewer window fills in with black.

0.Could you please enter winver in command prompt on local win10 computer and remote server 2019 then look the os version and os version number ?[for example windows 10 enterprise 1809 (os build 17763.316)]

1.If we change another local computer, will the same issue happen?

2."After connection is established, you can resize the viewing window but not the actual window that you are viewing."
Could you please explain this issue in detail?

Hello,

Actually its is the same server that I am shadowing a user on. Win 2019 Server build 17763.1935
This server is a session host and we are using a 2019 broker server build (same as above)

Condition is after logging on to shadow a user, I can enlarger my viewing area to full screen, however, the person I am shadowing, screen stays the same size in the viewing area. The area around the users shadowed computer is black.

None of the commands that associate with MSTSC have any affect on the shadowed users screen size.

I have tried different user login and devices with same result

HI

1.Did you mean you logon the w2019 session host server by using domain admin account and run below command to shadow a standard user's session (like u1) on the same session host server?
mstsc /v:rdsh1 /shadow:8

however, the person I am shadowing, screen stays the same size in the viewing area. The area around the users shadowed computer is black.

2.Could you share the picture about your symptom?
Please make sure that the pictures you post do not contain your company and your private information (including but not limited to domain name, public IP, email account, domain account, etc.). These private information must be altered.

3.Did current issue related to the resolution of display monitor from end user?

4.How many display monitors are used to issue end user and domain admin?

5.Are issue user set large display configuration and use all my monitors for the remote session、

The above is correct. I am trying to shadow a thin client (Wyse 3040) using what you have above. The RDP settings you have above have been tried several times, with some suggesting that you move it to small then large. The MSTSC commands do not have any effect on height/width/span/fullscreen . I will post a pic if needed, but what you have stated is correct

Condition 2 - I have found that the settings on the think client resolution size have a effect on this. But the window should still size from the commands of the mstsc
I know that you can shadow the thin clients from the WMS (Wyse Management system) - this might be a reason it cant resize? The windows appear to be the same size

If I adjust the screen resolution on the thin client to something like 1360 x 720 it appears to fill the entire RDP screen, but again, I would like to see the mtsc commands work.

Silly question, but are you viewing a 16:9 user on a 16:10 monitor or window? It fills the horizontal space, doesn't scroll, and displays everything. To reach the top and bottom would stretch the width beyond the viewing area.

HI
1.Please check if below method can help you?
This method is to set zoom to high level in RDP window after we remote access the destination server like below picture.
113134-image.png

2.If the issue persist, we can try to configure below domain policy/local policy on w2019 session host server and set the resolution for your expected.
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host >remote session environment
Limit maximum display resolution enable

How to restrict the maximum resolution of each monitor that can be used to display a Remote Desktop Services session

The first method only changes the sizing inside the viewing window but still does not change the height ratio. The screen still has black on the top and bottom of the RDP session.
