Installing PS 5.1 on Server 2008 R2 over PS 2

Good afternoon!

I need to install PS 5.1 on three Server 2008 R2 VMs for eventual migration to a new Nutanix stack. They currently have WMS/PS 2 (stock install) with .NET 4.7.1 and 4.7.2 installed.

This document warns explicitly about NOT installing WMF/PS 5.1 over WMF version 3.0, but nothing about earlier versions. Is there any guidance on this? I plan on doing this over the weekend, but any uncertainty over how it would behave can make a delay or postponement acceptable.

Thanks to all for looking!

G

Found this: https://www.petri.com/how-to-uninstall-windows-powershell

In the article it claims that PS 2 is the baseline and that trying to remove it in any way would seriously damage Windows. So it looks like installing PS 5.1 over PS 2.0 should be OK. Still going to document my PSModulePath, tho.....

Hi,

It's OK to install PowerShell 5.1 over PowerShell 2.0 on Server 2008 R2. The PSModulePath will not be lost.

Best Regards,
