Users not seeing "File in use by another user" on single server DFS mapped drive

Hi,

We have a GPO that deploys a mapped drive to a share on a file server.
This server is part of a DFA setup, but the mapped drive does not use the DFS namespace, it uses the direct server share name.

We are finding intermittently, that when a user opens an Excel document for example, that is already open by another user, they are not seeing the "File is in use by another user" message.
This results in some weird issues with data loss and conflicting edits.

Even though the mapped drive points directly to the server, is it possible that being part of the DFS setup could be interfering with this?

Thanks
James

The file is not a shared workbook, which is why I am posting here.
My belief is that the nature of the file server setup is preventing Excel from functioning as expected when a user has a workbook open already. I just need help to figure out what about the setup is interfering with this functionality.

Many thanks
James

Hi,
Welcome to ask here!

Based on my understanding, there is nothing we can do on the mapping drive or the GPO settings.
We may have to confirm if there is a configuration on the file itself. (For example: Excel)
On the file: uncheck the option: Allow changes by more than one user at the same time
