Hyperv and veeam backup and replication issues.

Dear Team,

I'm getting failed attempts when Veeam tries to do backup and replication at the scheduled for two Virtual machines which are part of cluster.

When the scheduled time reaches it creates several checkpoints on hyperv then fails on veeam to perform the backup and replication. which im afraid may fill the storage very soon.

Issue started when I needed to expand the disk space of the VM. So i merged the checkpoint which was existing then did the disk expansion from the failover manager.

I have even created a manual checkpoint but still not working.

Kindly help me identify if there is something else i need to do.

Hi

Validate your storage pool. Veeam create a snapshot to make the copy from it, if a storage issue it will fail.

If you have space problem, please install in the short term install the Veeam agent and perform a backup from there, it will do a VSS backup, which will not hurt your storage space.

After the backup is succesfull, please check to be sure your storage and snapshot if you can clean that.

Thanks

Philippe

Hi,

Thanks for posting on our forum!

Based on your description, I would like to check:
1) You encountered this issue AFTER you expanded your disk? And then, your scheduled backup came and your Hyper-V began to create several checkpoints? I am a little confused about the sequence of events.

2) Did you have any error messages when your Veeam backup failed? I would appreciate it if you could send me any screenshots about the failure.

Secondly, I agree with @yagmoth555 that your issue may be caused by storage shortage, you should check your storage condition in Disk Management. And you can follow @yagmoth555's advice to use VSS and clean up any checkpoints that you do not need.

Besides, if the issue is not related with your storage, then I think you can also query supporters from Veeam, in case there is any Veeam-related issues.

Thanks for your support! Have a nice day! : )

BR,
Joan
