Hi,

In this video after 13:10 is presented that in the first half of 2021 Microsoft will introduce option that allows you to set an expiration time for Teams meeting recordings.

Now almost in July our organization still has no this option. Is it delayed?

We receive the same error (You are not permitted to Invoke), but per MC274188 we should be able to set it via PowerShell. Looks like there was a reddit post as well but was deleted that someone else had the same issue. Any updates on when this will 'be released' @Xzsssss ? Looks like the feature rolls out starting in Sept, so ideally admins would be able to set this a few weeks in advance.

Btw, oot a while. Are you able to set the parameter -LiveStreamingMode to Enabled? Because I also got the same notif that I was not permitted to invoke it.

Hi anonymous user ,

Yes this command is not released yet.

THIS POWERSHELL PARAMETER IS CURRENTLY NOT ENABLED. ENGINEERING ARE AWARE AND WORK IS IN PROGRESS TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

And it shoule be enabled by September 1, 2021.

Read other comments. I've shared the post from Microsoft and mentioned it several times. While Microsoft is frustrating here, asking the same question over and over again without reading the updates is just as bad. All it does is add noise. Please take some time to read the the chain before commenting.

Does anyone else not think this is absurdly irresponsible of the MS Teams product managers to not give us enough time to disable this poorly thought out feature before it goes live??? Do you know how livid my users would be at me if thier meeting recordings just simply vanished???? Nope, Nope, Nope.... Not happy MS.

I think the command should be available on Sept 1, according to a MSFT employee's response. Hopefully that's the case.

I know for us, we don't want auto expiration, lot of videos are for archival purposes or are used once a semester (higher education) so auto expiration is really not a great option. Perhaps for others, they are temp documenting videos and it's okay. I have this marked on my calendar to try again on Sept 1st, plan on writing back here the results.

As others have mentioned and as I have stated already, we need to be able to set the configuration up prior to the change, so could you give us a hard date at when we can use the cmdlets to set the expiration. I do see that it will be updated via message center, but to be fair, they did that previously and it was incorrect. Anyway you could provide additional details?

FWIW - I'm not sure this is a proper change. People use videos for all sorts of archival reasons and essentially you're taking control of people's data. They pay you for storage in most cases, let them decide when it's time to delete data, instead of deciding for them. This aggressive date shouldn't be the default, and in any case, your customers need to be able to set this prior to the change going live.

Priceless... so after so many month of nothing they totally change direction without a hint of notice and without bothering to follow through with the PowerShell cmdlet. I would say this isnt all of Microsoft... just the extremely naive and inexperienced product mgmt team that was put in place to kill of Streams (for cost savings as Steams encoded every video in multiple formats which cost them a ton of money on all those recordings that mostly never went watched). They were so laser focused on killing off streams that they never bothered to think about how the tools are actually used or managed. There are other product Teams at Microsoft doing a better job although I cant think of one doing a great job sadly. For the very same reasons here, no communications that are held accountable. They need to stop rolling out features until well the feature is actually ready. I totally blame over zealous product managers. Due to basic human nature they get tunnel vision on about what they want to achieve and they lack the dynamic nature required to do the little things side by side with the big ones.

Anyways thanks for the share, here is my middle finger at Microsoft for what I believe is dumbest thing they ever set for a default value:

Please rename "Meetings automatically expire" to "Meeting RECORDINGS automatically expire" seriously, who QA's this stuff?

Try setting it via PowerShell, via the New/Set-CsTeamsMeetingPolicy cmdlet and the -MeetingRecordingExpirationDays parameter.

What does it mean when you try this and you get the response that you are not permitted to invoke with the MeetingRecordingExpirationDays parameter?

Here's what I ran and the results:

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Set-CsTeamsMeetingPolicy -Identity Global -MeetingRecordingExpirationDays 365
