What is the difference between builds 2103 and 2104 for M365 Apps Updates?

We use MECM to patch M365 Apps via the Monthly Enterprise Channel.

Both updates are being applied to end users because 2103 is not superseded. In my Googling I'm not finding what the reason for having multiple versions is.

We've standardized on the Monthly Enterprise Channel, but I'm not sure how best to approach this scenario.

I could adjust the ADR to exclude 2103, but would like to understand this situation better.

Thank you

Hi @SmartVS-6681,
The Version 2104 and Version 2103 are released at the same day. And they fixed different existed issues, I suggest you refer to these support articles about 2 updates.

Version 2104: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/monthly-enterprise-channel#version-2104-june-08

Version 2103: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/monthly-enterprise-channel#version-2103-june-08

Hope the information is helpful.

Thank you - so they are essentially sub-branches of the Monthly Enterprise Branch?

I saw those links, but still am trying to understand the difference between the two and why two "sub-branches" exist.

That way I can make a better decision about what to deploy within our environment.

Thank you

Hi,
As you can see, the Version 2103 have 2 fixed issues for Excel and Office Suite:
Excel: Fixed an issue where extra entries appeared in the Excel Add-in list for some users.
Office Suite: Fix an issue Word, Powerpoint and Excel would fail to open cloud document if rolling back to a previous build

These 2 fixed issues are included in the Version 2014:
Excel:
We fixed an issue where some files would occasionally fail to open in Protected View.
We fixed an issue that caused date formatting to be displayed incorrectly in some languages when using add-ins.
Fixed an issue where the Analysis ToolPak add-in did not work for some users.
Fixed an issue where extra entries appeared in the Excel Add-in list for some users.
Fix for an issue where a major version build rollback could result in the application terminating on file open.

Office Suite:
Fixed an issue that would cause cloud document to fail to open.
This change parses the new TenantId attribute sent on Cobalt responses and stores it in the Central Table.

So Version 2014 contains more fixes and new features updates.
And they are using the same Microsoft Office security updates: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/microsoft365-apps-security-updates

For product updates, we recommend installing the latest version update.

Hope the information is helpful.
