Unable to start VMs after hardware memory upgrade on Dell T420

Dear All,

today I have upgraded my old Dell T420 from 48GB to 144GB of RAM to handle few more machines. The memory DIMMs are Samsung dedicated for this server. Boot was totally successful, new ram is recognized correctly and the server works like a charm except hypervisor. I have 4 VMs that I was unable to boot after upgrade. There was just an error that in cannot change the VM state. Everything get to normal WHEN I removed new RAM DIMMs.

T420 BIOS 2.4.2

Problem solved.

The issue was due to memory page file size.
System has SSD RAID wich capacity is about 450GB, used about 60%. When the memory was added, system has assigned as much as it could to system page file, which size has grown to more than 150GB what caused free space on drive issues (less than 5GB). That's why machines couldn't even start.
I have manually set page file size with 2048 min and 22010 max size, but I'm not sure if it's ok.

Now VM's are starting with no problems.

Thank You !

Dell may be your best resource to debug problems with the hardware.

Hi Patrick,
Would you check the event logs and see if there’s anything relevant to this issue? It would of help to us if there’s an error code or event id.
If the problem proves to be about hardware, you might need to contact the vendor for their advice as we‘re not familiar with their product.

Thanks for your understanding.
Best regards,
Danny
